Tax Information & Payments
Access property tax records using the block and lot or the property location.
The Tax Collector’s Office is located on the first floor of the Municipal Building. Posted hours are Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 PM. Tax Collector, Shari Key, may be reached during these hours at (609) 924-7445 and via e-mail at TaxCollector@rockyhill-nj.gov.
The Office of the Tax Collector receives and collects current and/or delinquent taxes as well as keeping tax records. The Tax Collector can answer questions about tax collections, however, questions about assessments should be directed to the Tax Assessor.
The quarterly installments are due on February 1, May 1, August 1, and November 1. There is a 10 day grace period for each installment. Postmarks cannot be accepted. Partial payments are not accepted. Payments received after the 10th of the month following the due date will be charged interest from the first of the month. Payments may be made by mail, in person (either during regular collection hours or during regular hours of the Borough Clerk’s Office), and a drop-slot is available in the front door of the Municipal Building.
Please note: Payments in the drop slot after the close of Borough office hours on the 10th of the month when due will be considered late and assessed a late charge accordingly. If you require a receipt, please send entire tax bill and a self addressed, stamped envelope and your bill will be receipted and returned to you. Tax bills are generally mailed in July and the first payment is due on August 1 unless otherwise specified.
Interest is required to be charged on late payments per State statute as follows: 8% on the first $1500.00 of delinquency and 18% over $1500.00. Accounts will remain at the 18% rate until brought current. Accounts with prior year delinquencies will be sold at tax sale.
The tax sale is held at the end of the current year for unpaid taxes. The tax sale is advertised in the Somerset County Gazette.
When money is escrowed for taxes, it is the homeowner’s responsibility to ensure that the Tax Office is aware of same and provided with the lending agency’s bank code. Any time a property is refinanced or sold to another bank, the Tax Collector must be informed of the bank code change. When mortgages are satisfied, the Tax Collector must be advised of same in writing in order to remove the bank code.
